11th Annual Public Health and Safety Challenge

On Saturday, April 20th, the Wilmington Police and Fire Departments will face off in a basketball game that benefits the youth programs at the Police Athletic League of Wilmington.

The basketball game marks an exciting and long-standing rivalry between the two public safety departments.

“While the Public Safety Challenge demonstrates the team effort of both Police and Fire, Wilmington Firefighters are looking to destroy the cops and place the champions trophy back in its rightful place at our Fire Headquarters,” said Chief of Fire, Anthony Goode.

The winner of the Public Health and Safety Challenge has their respective color, Blue for the Wilmington Police Department and Red for the Wilmington Fire Department, painted on the entryway doors at the PALW.

“History has a way of repeating itself,” said Chief of Police, Christine Dunning. “The door will remain blue in 2013.”

The Public Health and Safety Challenge will also feature a community fair which includes: free children’s activities, vendors and concessions.

The community fair will be hosted from 10:00a.m.-2:00p.m.

The Police vs. Fire basketball game will begin at 2:00p.m.

This event is free and open to the public.
