Norman D. Griffiths was first elected as the Second District City Councilman in 1992 and re-elected in 1996, 2000 and 2004. His tenure on City Council includes serving as Chair of the Public Safety Committee and the Finance and Economic Development Committee. Norman was elected as Wilmington City Council President on November 4, 2008.

Norman has been employed by the DuPont Company in the Legal Department since 1983 where he currently advises DuPont’s Titanium Technologies business unit.

Norman received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from American University, Washington, D.C. in 1980. He received his law degree from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law in 1983.

He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Delaware Technical & Community College; the Delaware Community Foundation; and Westside Family Health, Inc. Norman has served as Chairman of the Board of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League and served on the board of Christiana Care Health System; the Urban Development Action Grant Corporation (UDAG); and the Wilmington Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO).

Norman’s commitment and dedication to the City of Wilmington has been unwavering since he and his family moved to Wilmington in 1983. He and his wife, Michele, have been married since 1977 and they have four adult children, all of whom are college graduates.

“Wilmington has grown a great deal in the past 20 years and that has only occurred due to the efforts of a team of government and community leaders. In order for Wilmington to prosper in these uncertain times, we will have to balance the need to grow against our ability to sustain such growth with sufficient revenues and other resources. All of us need to work together to make Wilmington a “place to be somebody” and a place where people want to raise their families, enjoy recreation and pursue their careers.“
