In a continued effort to reach compromise, Mayor Dennis P. Williams met with City Council President Theopalis K. Gregory, Sr. last night in City Hall to discuss the Fiscal Year 2014 budget. While progress was made on significant issues, a final agreement has yet to be reached. Top Administration and Council staff will meet this afternoon in an effort to resolve remaining issues.
The Administration has determined the impact of Council imposed cuts to be problematic. Cuts in the Finance Department will directly impact revenue collection resulting in an unbalanced budget. Further, Mayor Williams has concerns other cuts will have a critical impact on operations and services to the public.
“It was important for President Gregory and me to openly discuss some of the major sticking points,” said Mayor Williams. “Although we have not yet reached full agreement, I remain hopeful that the final budget will be in the best interest of our citizens."
