On Friday, May 24 at 5:58 p.m., Wilmington City firefighters on the A-Platoon were dispatched to the 1000 block of Kirk Avenue for a reported house fire. Upon arriving, fire suppression units were advised that an active fire was burning in the laundry room of the first floor of the two-story row home.
Wilmington firefighters performed an aggressive interior attack of the fire and confined the fire to the room of origin. The fire was placed under control at 6:12 p.m. by the Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Edward Hojnicki. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Fire damage was confined to the room of origin with smoke damage throughout the dwelling of origin. The occupants were not displaced.
The Wilmington Fire Marshal's Office responded to investigate the cause of the fire. The fire investigation is still active and ongoing. The FMO has the incident currently listed as UNDER INVESTIGATION pending evaluation of any evidence that was collected.
Twenty-two fire and EMS personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: Squad Engine 1, Engine 6, Engine 5, Ladder 2, Battalion 1, Battalion 5, Ambulance PA3, NCC Medic 8.
