Police Investigate Homicide; Victim's Daughter Charged with Murder

Summary:

Police are investigating a homicide after an 83 year old victim was stabbed to death by her daughter.

The investigation began at approximately 1:40 a.m. on August 15, 2013, when uniformed officers responded to the 900 block of North Jackson Street for a report of a person down. Arriving officers located the victim, Wilda Hutt, deceased in her living room from apparent stab wounds. Officers also located the victim’s daughter, April Hutt, in the living room. Evidence located on scene and statements made by the April Hutt gave officers cause to arrest her for murder.

An investigation indicates that the defendant and victim engaged in an argument which concluded when the defendant struck the victim with a frying pan and then stabbed her repeatedly with a kitchen knife.

After extensive interviews and a thorough investigation, detectives formally charged April Hutt with 1st degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. Hutt was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 20 and held without bail at Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution.
