Summary:

Police seized heroin and drug paraphernalia from inside of a room in the Courtyard Marriott hotel.

Monday afternoon at approximately 4:28 p.m., Master Corporal Michael Groark and Officer Joshua Hiers responded to the 1100 block of North West Street (Courtyard Marriott) in reference to a drug complaint. Upon arrival, officers responded to a 4th floor room and observed multiple bags of heroin (2.96 grams) and drug paraphernalia in plain view. In addition, officers observed a small child inside of the hotel room. All occupants were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Public Safety Building. The child was turned over to a relative who responded to the hotel.

Oscar Alvarez was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institutional in lieu of a $43,000.00 cash bail. Irish Diaz-Samchex was committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of a $43,000.00 cash bail. Pedro Mercado was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institutional in lieu of a $53,000.00 cash bail. Both juveniles were committed to the New Castle County Detention Center.
