A convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm was arrested after a foot chase Saturday afternoon.
Master Corporal William Draper and Officer Robert DiRocco were on proactive patrol when they received information that a suspect was armed with a gun in the area of West 7th and North Pine Streets. The officers observed Kwame Lofland, who matched the suspect description, walking in the 500 block of North Pine Street clutching his waistband and attempting to conceal a firearm. When the officers attempted to stop him, Lofland fled on foot and discarded a loaded 9mm handgun. The officers took Lofland into custody after several blocks with help from assisting units.
An investigation revealed that the firearm had a partially obliterated serial number and that Lofland possessed the firearm within a school safe zone. Lofland is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior violent felony and drug convictions.
Kwame Lofland was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $45,500 cash bail.
