January 20, 2014 will mark Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This holiday is an opportunity for Wilmington residents to honor Dr. King’s legacy through their service. MLK Day encourages communities to bridge barriers, empower individuals and create solutions to social issues.

“Martin Luther King Day is about giving back to and serving your community,” said Mayor Williams. “We can never forget Dr. King’s commitment to achieve freedom, equality and justice for all people.”

The MLK Day is a holiday observed as a day of service—a “day ON, not a day off.”

In remembrance of Dr. King, Mayor Williams will attend a variety of different MLK Celebrations throughout the City of Wilmington. If you are interested in participating in a day of service below is a list of volunteer opportunities and activities that support the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
