A City of Wilmington 9-1-1 operator was arrested after an investigation revealed that she had interfered with emergency communications while working in her official capacity.
The investigation revealed that on Thursday, January 9, 2014, Alleshia Kennedy, who is employed by the City of Wilmington as a 9-1-1 operator, purposely did not put information from a 9-1-1 call reporting shots fired into the dispatch system. She then communicated with a suspect about the call for shots fired and informed him that police had been called.
Detectives took Kennedy into custody on the evening of January 27 at Wilmington Police Headquarters. Kennedy was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 20 and released after posting $6,000 secured bond.
Alleshia Kennedy is restricted from Wilmington Police Headquarters by court order. Her status as an employee will be determined by an internal review process.
