Investigation Concludes with Seizure of Over 4,000 Heroin Bags

Photo of Enrique TorruellaThe Wilmington Police Department Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division concluded a two month drug investigation with the seizure of over 4,000 bags of heroin at a vehicle stop.

Investigators developed information that Enrique Torruella was using a white Ford Explorer to transport heroin from Philadelphia to Wilmington. On March 07, 2014, investigators observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on I-95 South, just north of Route 202. The investigators conducted a traffic stop and Corporal Erik Meese’s canine partner, Rex, gave a positive alert for the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle.

Investigators executed a Justice of the Peace Court 20 search warrant on the vehicle and seized 4,350 bags of heroin along with a small amount of marijuana.

Enrique Torruella was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
