This year, the DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz Festival will celebrate its 26th anniversary and will take place from Wednesday, June 18 through Saturday, June 21, 2014.
The Jazz Festival is recognized for bringing world class artists to perform in downtown Wilmington, and holds the distinction as one of the largest free music festivals in the region. The City looks to continue this rich tradition in honor of the City’s local jazz legend, Clifford Brown.
“The Clifford Brown Jazz Festival is a staple of Wilmington’s performing arts culture,” said Mayor Dennis P. Williams. “The City is excited to celebrate the 26th anniversary and I hope the community gets involved and enjoys all of the many activities the festival has to offer.”
This year, the DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz Festival will feature two receptions following the concert performances on Thursday, June 19 and Friday, June 20. Thursday evening, Cityfest, Grey Goose, and Delmarva Power, will host Sax in the City, which will serve as an after party following the performances on the main stage. Taking place in the newly renovated Wilmington Public Library from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., Sax in the City will feature two floors of live music, entertainment, food and drink tastings. General admission to the Sax in the City event is $25 and all proceeds will benefit Cityfest, a non-profit organization that contributes to arts and cultural programs in the City of Wilmington through the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs. Guests must be 21 to attend the event and tickets may be purchased online at www.cliffordbrownjazzfest.com
On Friday evening, the Silver Trumpet Block Party returns for a second year. Taking place in the heart of downtown Wilmington on Market Street, between 8th and 10th Streets, the block party will begin immediately following the final main stage performance. The Silver Trumpet Block Party offers live music, refreshments and an energetic atmosphere. This event will be free and open to the general public.
Additional events surrounding the festival include a daily lunchtime concert in H.B. Dupont Park Monday, June 16 to Friday, June 20 and a Sunday Jazz Brunch at Chelsea Tavern.
The four-day jazz festival, in addition to Sax in the City and the Silver Trumpet Block Party events, will provide attendees the opportunity to come together and enjoy exciting live entertainment in downtown Wilmington.
