Resident Takes Stand for Neighborhood: Police Seize Crack Cocaine after Foot Chase

Summary:

Corporals Paul Ciber and Justin Cannon responded to the 700 block of East 17th Street in reference to a resident’s complaint of a subject selling drugs in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with the resident who pointed to Shaheed Abdurrafi, the only person standing on the block. As officers approached Abdurrafi and asked if they could speak with him, Abdurrafi turned away and fled on foot. Officers pursued Abdurrafi on foot through the 2100 block of North Spruce Street where Abdurrafi tossed a clear plastic bag containing 5.5 grams of Crack Cocaine to the ground. After a brief struggle, Abdurrafi was taken into custody.

Abdurrafi, a convicted felon and convicted drug offender, was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Facility in lieu of a $11,000.00 secured bond.
