Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Drug Arrest, Littering Charges

Derrick Crosby, 41, 2600 block Creston Place, Wilmington, Delaware
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
- Littering (two counts)
- Possession of Marijuana
- Failure to Signal (4 counts)
- Failure to Stop At a Red Light ( 2 counts)
- Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign (9 counts)
At approximately 12:45 a.m. Officers Matthew Rosaio and Antonio Tiberi observed a black Nissan Maxima disregard a stop sign at Eastlawn Avenue and North Church Street. The officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the 3100 block of Northeast Boulevard and made contact with the operator, Derrick Crosby. The officers immediately observed a bag of marijuana in the passenger compartment. When the officers asked Crosby to exit the vehicle, he began accelerating and drove south on Northeast Boulevard. As the officers pursued the vehicle, Crosby threw the marijuana out of his window.
Crosby continued to flee from the officers through the city’s north side committing multiple traffic violations. The pursuit ended in the 2600 block of North Pine Street and Crosby was taken into custody. Officers then located the bag of marijuana (approximately 46.3 grams) where they had observed Crosby attempt to discard it.
Crosby was arraigned at JP Court #20 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of a $4,000 secured bond.
