On Friday, May 31 at 1:50 p.m., Wilmington City firefighters on the “D” Platoon were dispatched to the 800 block of North Adams Street for a reported structure fire. Upon arriving, fire suppression units were advised that there was smoke in the apartment coming from the rear wall of Apartment 3.
Wilmington firefighters identified the area and were able to dismantle the rear outside wall on the third floor to prevent the fire from spreading. The fire was contained to the area of origin. Areas above and below were checked for any extension and found none.
The Wilmington Fire Marshal's Office responded to investigate the cause of the fire. Their determination was that the fire was caused by discarded smoking materials.
Eighteen fire personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: SB-2, Squad Engine 1, Engine 5, Tower 2, Battalion 4, Battalion 8, Fire Marshal's Office, and Licenses & Inspections.
