Pedestrian Struck Crossing Pennsylvania Avenue

Summary:

A Wilmington man is in critical but stable condition at Christiana Hospital after he was struck by vehicle while attempting to cross the street.

At approximately 7:00 p.m. police responded to the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue after receiving a 911 reporting the collision. An initial investigation indicates that the 92 year old male victim was walking north across Pennsylvania Avenue in an area not designated for pedestrian traffic. He was struck by a westbound 2011 Mercedes Benz GL4 in the northern westbound lane. The operator of the striking vehicle immediately stopped his vehicle and remained with the victim. The victim was transported to Christiana Hospital by ambulance where he was admitted in critical but stable condition.

Westbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue was closed for approximately one hour as the Collision Reconstruction Team conducted an investigation.
