Marijuana Odor Leads to Gun Arrest

    • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (2 counts)

Summary:

Two teenagers smoking marijuana in a parked vehicle face firearm and drug charges after watchful neighbors alerted police.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m. yesterday evening Corporal Paul Ciber and Officer Justin Cannon were dispatched to the 200 block of Cityview Avenue for a complaint of subjects smoking marijuana in a parked vehicle. The officers located the vehicle occupied by Dion Bacon and a 17-year-old male. The officers detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and ordered the defendants to exit. Officers searched Bacon and located 17 Xanax pills for which he did not have a prescription. Officers then searched the vehicle and located two firearms: a loaded .22 caliber silver revolver and a loaded black .380 semi-automatic handgun. Officers also located 2 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.

Bacon is under 21 and a convicted felon thereby prohibited from possessing a firearm. The juvenile is under 21 and is similarly prohibited from possessing a firearm.

The defendants were transported to Wilmington Police Headquarters and arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 20.

Bacon was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of a $90,500 secured bond. The juvenile was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of a $25,000 cash bail.
