The officers conducted a vehicle stop and made contact with the operator of the vehicle, Corey Lewis, and the front passenger, Marvin Smith. An investigation revealed that Lewis was driving while suspended and without valid proof of insurance.

A computer check of DELJIS revealed that both Lewis and Smith had active capiases for their arrest. During the course of their arrest, the officers located a loaded silver .38 caliber revolver in the front passenger compartment of the Explorer. An investigation revealed that the firearm was reported stolen out of Pennsylvania.

Lewis is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a previous felony drug conviction.

Smith is on probation and prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a previous robbery conviction.

Corey Lewis was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of a $25,000 cash bail.
