Office of Economic Development Accepting Applications for Mega BizFest Business Plan Competition and Nominations for Thomas J. Moyer Awards

The Office of Economic Development’s Office of Small and Minority Business Enterprise is now accepting applications for the Mega BizFest Business Plan Competition and nominations for the Thomas J. Moyer Awards.

Mega BizFest — the City of Wilmington's annual signature procurement and business event for veterans, women and minority businesses, collaborates with the City’s business partners and cooperates with the U.S. SBA, Delaware District Office, MEDWEEK Celebration, to focus on stimulating economic opportunities and growth for small women, veteran and minority-owned businesses.

“Mega BizFest is our way of helping small business owners grow and become a part Wilmington’s emerging business community — where growth and prosperity is available to all and everyone is given the opportunity and direction to succeed.”

The annual Mega BizFest Business Plan competition showcases small, minority, and disadvantaged business owners in the City. This year, the City will award $10,000 to the competition winners. Applicants can compete in one of two categories: Emerging Businesses, start-up to 5 years, or Established Businesses, six or more years of operation. The Business Plan competition applications are due by August 3rd at 12:00 p.m. and, if selected, business plans must be submitted by September 13th at 12:00 p.m.

The City of Wilmington will host the 8th Annual Statewide Thomas J. Moyer Disadvantaged Enterprise (DBE) Awards Dinner on Thursday, October 10th. The award recognizes Moyer’s dedicated service for more than 15 years as the former Director of the Small and Minority Business Enterprise Office for the City of Wilmington. His distinguished work helped establish the City of Wilmington as a major contributor in providing opportunities for veterans, small, minority and women-owned businesses.

Members of the community may nominate outstanding prime and general contractors, small/ minority businesses and pioneers in business development. Nominations for the Thomas J. Moyer Awards are now being accepted and are due by August 30th at 12:00 p.m.
