Mayor Dennis P. Williams invites everyone to attend Caroling on the Square in Downtown Wilmington, on Tuesday, December 10th at 6:30p.m. to enjoy a festive evening singing and fellowshipping during Wilmington’s official tree lighting ceremony in Rodney Square.
Caroling on the Square is an annual fixture in the City’s holiday season, but this year, attendees will carol by candlelight through Downtown Wilmington.
Carolers will begin at the newly renovated Peter Spencer Plaza, and then participants will walk and carol together to The Grand Opera House. Led by various choirs everyone will precede to carol together to Rodney Square for the official tree lighting ceremony.
“Caroling on the Square is a staple in the City of Wilmington that brings people downtown, so they come together and celebrate the holiday season,” said Mayor Williams. “Traditionally, carolers walked from house to house singing Christmas songs. This will be a great way to bring some of the caroling tradition to the City.”
Caroling on the Square will be led by the Wilmington Children’s Chorus, the Canaan Baptist Choir and Luz y Verdad. Santa Claus will be the featured guest during the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Children attending Caroling on the Square are encouraged to write a letter to Santa and have it collected by Santa’s helpers during the event. Attendees will also receive complimentary hot chocolate and candy canes.
