In celebration of Earth Day, Mayor Williams participated in Capital One Direct “Clean Up Day” at the Wilmington & Brandywine Cemetery.
The Mayor, along with 25 volunteers from Capital One Direct, picked up branches, removed overgrown vegetation, raked debris and planted new flowers in one of the City’s most historic cemeteries.
“Earth Day serves as a reminder that we all must do our part to take care of the environment,” said Mayor Williams. “Projects and initiatives, such as this cleaning, are essential to preserve the beauty of our communities.”
The Wilmington & Brandywine Cemetery covers more than 25 acres in the center of Downtown Wilmington, and was opened in 1843 and serves as the resting place for more than 23,000 people.
