Today, Mayor Dennis P. Williams vetoed the Fiscal Year 2014 Operating Budget passed by City Council on May 16, 2013.

In his veto letter to President Theopalis K. Gregory, Sr., Mayor Williams asserted the budget approved by Council is not a balanced budget as required by the City Charter.  Further, the budget ordinance as passed is in violation of the City Charter, as indicated in two separate opinions issued by City Solicitor, Michael P. Migliore.

In spite of the veto, the Mayor’s letter expressed the hope that a compromise with City Council could be reached where mutual areas of responsibility can be respected, and the best interest of the citizens can be served.
