The Wilmington RISE citywide clean up, that was scheduled from 12:00-3:00p.m., and the celebration in Rodney Square, scheduled from 4:00-7:00p.m., are both cancelled due to severe heat.
The City of Wilmington uses a threshold of 105 degree heat index to cease all outside activities, and directs supervisors to refrain from having employees perform outside assignments using manual labor (no grass cutting, weed whacking, lifting, digging, or sanitation duties) except in emergency situations.
Currently, the heat index in 106 degrees.
“Whenever the outdoor temperature and the outdoor relative humidity reach an index of 97 degrees or more all employees will be removed from their outdoor duties and other arrangements will be made for the remainder of their shift,” said Jacqueline Jenkins, Director of the Human Resources Department.
The Wilmington RISE launch and citywide clean up will be rescheduled to take place within the next few weeks.
