What are the qualifications for employment?
All candidates must posses a GED or a high school diploma and pass a criminal background investigation and physical examination. Additionally, the successful applicant must possess the minimum qualifications and the required knowledge, skills and abilities of the vacant position.

How do I apply for a job?
In order to be considered for a full-time position with the City of Wilmington, a person must complete an employment application. All non-appointed vacancies are posted for 10 working days. Employment applications must be received within the Department of Human Resources by the close of business (5:00 p.m.) on the job closing date.
Applications and job descriptions may be obtained Monday through Friday at the Louis L. Redding City/County Building, Department of Human Resources, 4th Floor, 800 N. French Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or on the City website.

The City of Wilmington requires that all new employees are to establish City residency within six months of their date of hire and to continue their residency within the City limits for five years.
COMPLIANCE FOR NEWLY HIRED EMPLOYEES
All newly hired employees are sent an Offer of Employment letter, which informs the selected candidate that City residency is an employment qualification and requirement. This notification provides details on the State law, City Charter and Code sections, and the documents required to verify residency.
New employees declaring City residency upon hire are to provide the necessary documents at the Department of Human Resources orientation.
New employees who do not provide proof of residency upon hire are required to provide the necessary documentation prior to the six-month limit. An extension may be requested per ruling by the Residency Review Board. Those who fail to provide the necessary documentation shall be scheduled for a hearing before the board.
Direct deposit is required for all new non-limited service employees.
